  • For the first time, and as a result of intense bargaining with NYU in 2022, adjuncts now receive administrative pay for work done outside the classroom. This is a new pay category negotiated by the union.

Administrative pay varies depending on the number of credits assigned for your course.

For Academic Year 2024-25, the payment per course, per semester is as follows:

    • Non-Credit, No Credit, 1-Credit, or 2-Credit Courses: $1,071.23

    • 3-Credit Courses: $1,606.84

    • 4-Credit Courses: $2,142.45

  • Administrative pay will be divided equally and arrive in the same checks as the payments for your course(s).

  • Course development is the creation of a new course that has not previously been offered by the university. Adjuncts can be paid for “the development of or building of new content” for either credit or non-credit courses.

  • The minimum rates are:

    • Credit course (any format): $1,968.54 per course

    • Non-credit course (any format): $664.80 per course (28 contact hours or less)

    • Non-credit course (any format) $1,355.47 per course (more than 28 contact hours)

  • If you are asked to develop a course, you must obtain an agreement from your department in writing and complete “an approved form” signed by the department. Payment will be made once the course has been delivered.

If your department asks you to develop a course, and you do so without a signed agreement, you may not be eligible for course development pay. We recommend not starting course development before you have signed paperwork.

  • No. Course development rates will increase annually:

    • AY 2025-26 3.75%

    • AY 2026-27 6%

  • Unfortunately, NYU does not have to pay you for course development done without a signed agreement. You can ask to be paid, but the union can not enforce the contract without an approved form.
